'Hounds out after loss to Toppenish

By Bob O'Neil
The wacky, topsy-turvy season for the Grandview boys basketball team came to a fitting end last Saturday at West Valley High School, when they let one get away.
Grandview raced to a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Greyhounds, which led the CWAC going into the final week of the regular season, allowed Toppenish to chip away at the lead in the second and third quarters and were then out scored 20-11 in the fourth, as Toppenish grabbed the third and final regional seed, with a 49-44 come-from-behind victory.
The outcome was decided at the free-throw line, as Toppenish was able to capitalize on numerous attempts from the charity stripe in the final stages, while Grandview was not successful at luring Toppenish into committing fouls.
GHS athletes garner all-league honors

The CWAC announced its selections for the winter sports all-league honors over the past weekend, and a handful of Grandview athletes were among those selected.
Junior forward Payton Parrish, who was one of  the top scorers and rebounders in the league, was named to the girls' basketball first team. Parrish had several double-double nights for the Lady 'Hounds, in a season that was cut short when they lost to Ellensburg 41-40 in their last game of the season.
Greyhound wrestlers make waves at Tacoma Dome Mat Classic

Lets see, if I get a Mohawk hair cut, and dye it orange, I should be able to intimidate my opponents into submission. Right?
It may be an advantage at the high-school level, and maybe in life in general, but it does help if you can actually back up with action what you try to convey as a persona.
Grandview senior Martin Torres, Mohawk, orange hair and all, backed it up by finishing his high-school career with a fourth-place finish at last week's Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome.
"Pork Chop" Torres opened his personal onslaught seeking a state championship with a third-period pin of Jake Larson of Mt. Baker in the first round.
